sustainability reuse

Moving is the perfect opportunity to go through a “purge” of your belongings. But what’s one to do once you’ve decided what to keep and you have a pile of stuff you don’t want? With all the ways to donate and reuse most household items, trashing those items are not an option. So just what are your green options? Let’s see:

Re-Use Centers:

Have an item that is still in good condition but serves no purpose for you? You can drop it off in the Re-Use Center at your local U-Haul self-storage facility. You can drop off gently used household goods, furniture, sports equipment, bikes and even clothing. This gives other people the opportunity to use it or make something great out of it. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

Charity Drop-Offs:

If you are more community service driven then dropping off your unwanted items at your nearest St. Vincent de Paul location might be your speed. The money earned from your donation goes to helping those less fortunate across the United States. You can also use your donation as a tax write-off.

Take a Box, Leave a Box: the green room

If at the end of your move you have extra moving supplies, you can drop them off at the Take a Box, Leave a Box at your local U-Haul store. This is allows other customers to use your boxes for their move. U-Haul boxes are made to be used multiple times so if you have no use for them, share them!

Undecided?

We all have those items that we don’t want to get rid of but aren’t sure where to put. Don’t worry! There are still sustainable ways to store your items until you decide what to do with them. You can use U-Haul’s modular storage that reuses detached van bodies from retired U-Haul trucks as storage units and biodegradable packing peanuts to make sure your loved items are stored safely.
